How Are Genres and Rhetorical Situations Related?

Genres and rhetorical situations work together because the situation helps us decide how we should communicate. One example I have experienced is writing an email to a teacher about missing class. I chose an email because it was a more appropriate way to explain the situation than sending a text message.

In this situation, my teacher was the audience, and my purpose was to explain why I was not in class. Since I was communicating with someone with higher authority, I needed to be respectful and use a more formal tone. I also made sure to explain everything clearly so there would not be any confusion.

I think the email worked well because it fit the situation and the person I was talking to. A text message would have seemed too casual for the situation. This experience showed me that choosing the right genre can make communication clearer and more effective.
