Understanding Genres

To me, genre is a type of writing that is used for a certain purpose and audience. Different genres are used in different situations. An example of this could be an email to a professor, how it is more formal than a text to a friend. The genre we choose can change how we share our ideas.

Genres are helpful in the writing process because they give us a way to organize our writing. They can help us decide what tone to use, what information to include, and how to structure our ideas. Genres also help readers know what to expect from the writing. For example, a research paper gives information and facts, while a personal story shares someone’s experiences.

I use different genres in my everyday life. When I text my friends, I use a casual style, but when I write for school, I use a more serious and organized style. I also see different genres when I read, such as stories, articles, and emails. Overall, genres help everyone communicate their ideas in the best way for their audience.
